From dark and damp, to family hangout
Many homes in the Pacific Northwest were built with basements, conveniently awesome square footage, but most were created as storage and utility spaces. Now, with property values at a premium, retaking that floor space into usable, inviting, family spaces is more important than ever.
This basement was the original space, and while it was a daylight, walkout space, it was dark and non-functional.
Plans were drawn up to include two updated bedroom/offices, a laundry, full bath, and family hang out zone and workout space!
The bathroom is an example of how simple materials can make a big impact. We used simple white tile and a pre-fab vanity, and the result is a balanced, bright, and welcoming bathroom- hello black walls 🙂
We custom designed the cabinetry in the laundry room to deal with a funky layout left by HVAC and utility demands. While not optimal floor space, we managed to fit every storage need into the creative use of space. Plus, the robins egg blue was a fun touch for a utility space!
The living zone got a custom wet bar and an entertainment zone to hide gaming equipment and workout accessories alike.
The LVP flooring is durable for basement climates, and lent a touch of warmth and brightness to the now highly functional and frequently used basement.
